Bye Laws Of The Club
BYE –LAWS OF THE CLUB
The name of the Club is Purley Chase Golf Club Ltd.
The Club is a Proprietary Club.
The following Bye-Laws are subject to alterations, as the Proprietors may from time to time deem necessary.
The Proprietors will provide the Club Premises and all reasonable necessities for carrying on the club in accordance with its own Bye-Laws. They will be solely responsible for all expenses connected, there with, for the engagement, dismissal and payment of staff, and for catering and all other matters which involve the disbursement of money.
PART ONE
MEMBERSHIP
Entrance fees and subscriptions
The payment of his Entrance Fee (where appropriate) and the subscription by a member entitles him/her to all the privileges of the Club, within his/her category of membership, and at the same time indicates his acquiescence to its memorandum and Articles of Association and its Bye Laws in force for the time being.
The Proprietors of the Club shall determine the amount of entrance fee (if any) and the amount of annual subscription due and payable by each member. The amount of entrance fee and annual subscription varies according to the type and duration of membership.
All entrance fees (if any) and annual subscriptions shall be payable on election and subsequent annual subscriptions on 1st April of each year.
Members whose entrance fee (if any) and annual subscriptions not paid by 1st April of any year will not be eligible to take part in any Club competitions until all payments outstanding have been made. Indeed should any member wish to play whilst his subscription is outstanding, he must pay a guest green fee. After 30th April the defaulting club member would at the discretion of the proprietors cease to be a club member.
Where the Proprietors agree that payment for an annual subscription may be made by instalments there is a commitment to all payments and the Proprietors will advise the club member of the due dates of payment of all instalments.
CATEGORIES OF MEMBERSHIP
Full 7 day gentleman member: membership confers on the holder full rights of the club membership.
Full 5 day gentleman member: membership confers on the holder full rights of membership except on Saturdays and Sundays, other than use of the Clubhouse.
Corporate membership: the provisions of these Bye-Laws, apply, to such members and their eligible employees in the same way as they do to individual club members.
Full 7 day Lady member: membership confers on the holder full rights of the Club membership, but not on the golf course before 11.30am on Saturdays and Sundays, unless otherwise agreed by the Secretary. Lady Members can of course pay a full fee and not have tee restrictions at weekends.
Full 5 day Lady member: membership confers on the holder the full rights of membership except on Saturdays and Sundays, other than use of the Clubhouse.
Senior membership: any member over the age of 55 is eligible to play in the Senior competitions. At the discretion of the Proprietors there will be a discounted subscription offered to any Senior member becoming 65 years prior to the 1st April in any one year.
Junior membership; is as the separate Junior Rule book, and the age of the Junior membership is up to 18 years. On reaching the age of 18 the Junior becomes a Colt and is liable to pay the Colts subscription from the 1st April the following year.
Colt membership: aged 18 to 21 years. On reaching 21 the full 7 day becomes due on the 1st April the following year.
Social membership: Social members are eligible to use the clubhouse facilities.
Other categories may be introduced at the discretion of the Proprietors.
A Member may transfer from one category to another only with the approval of the Proprietors.
Application for membership
Every application of Club membership shall be made in writing on a form provided by the Club Secretary.
The election of club members is vested solely in the Proprietors and their decision shall be final. Before taking any decision on the election of a candidate, the Proprietors reserve the right to require him or her to attend the clubhouse for an interview.
Notice in writing of his/her election shall be sent by post to each new Member, along with these Bye-Laws and a request for payment of the sum due for his/her relevant membership.
Not withstanding the date of their election, all Club members are subject to re-election by the Proprietors during the month of March and any Club member not re-elected at the end of that month will cease to be a Club member. Notice of re-election or failure to secure re-election (as the case may be) shall be sent by the Proprietors to each member.
Club membership is not transferable.
Members are required to notify the Secretary immediately of any change of address or telephone number.
Membership Diary/ Handbook
The Secretary of the club shall be responsible for issuing Membership Diary/ Handbook/ Fixtures card to all members.
Membership Diary/ Handbook/ Fixtures card remains the property of the club. Members are required to carry their current Diary/Handbook/ Fixtures card to prove membership at all times whilst attending the Club as they may be requested to produce these on entering the club.
Termination of Club Membership
The proprietors may by notice in writing terminate the membership of a club member who shall have;
- been guilty of any serious or objectionable conduct whilst at the club; or
- been guilty of any serious or (after written warning) any persistent or continuing breech of these Bye-Laws, or
- whose membership is in the opinion of the Proprietors contrary to the interests or reputation of the club.
Guests
Guests must conform to all dress codes and must be of a creditable golfing standard.
A Club member may introduce guests provided that;
- they have been properly signed in and the appropriate green fee paid.
- that no guests be allowed on the course at weekends prior to 12 noon.
- they are accompanied by the member introducing them and that he or she is responsible for the fee and all bills incurred by them.
Any particular guests may only be introduced 10 times per year at the reduced green fee.
The names of playing guests must be entered in the visitor’s book and their green fees paid before they play golf. In the case of non-playing guests, their names must be entered in the non-playing visitor’s book immediately on arrival in the Clubhouse and their fees paid if any are due.
The Proprietors reserve the right to refuse a member’s guest access to the golf course or clubhouse without explanation.
A member is totally responsible for the behaviour of his guest, both on the course and in the Clubhouse.
Temporary Members
The Proprietors may elect Temporary Member’s at their discretion, and the Secretary may extend privileges of Temporary Membership to any person.
Payment of Accounts
A Member must defray whatever expenses he incurs in the Club either on his own behalf or for his guests before leaving the Clubhouse. No credit is allowed.
Club Premises
The Clubs opening and closing hours are as advised and any changes will be at the discretion of the Proprietors.
The Proprietors reserve the right at all times to close areas of the club of the Club premises and course to carry out repairs alterations and/or redecoration.
The Member’s Lounge is open to any golfing member or visitor.
Members or guests may not bring drinks or food into the Club premises.
No posters, paper or advertisements of any description may be displayed on the club notice boards or elsewhere in the club without proper consent of the Secretary.
Dress code in the Clubhouse
Dress in the Clubhouse should be smart casual; ties are not compulsory unless otherwise stated. Shoes and socks should be worn at all times in the Club and on the course.
The wearing of hats anywhere in the Clubhouse is prohibited.
The changing of shoes in the car park is strictly prohibited. Changing rooms are provided for this purpose.
No raffles or any form of fund raising may be conducted in the clubhouse without prior permission from the Secretary.
Spike Bar Dress Code
Smart casual.
Football and Rugby shirts are strictly prohibited anywhere in the Clubhouse.
Children
Children under 12 other than Junior members shall not be allowed in the Clubhouse or grounds unless accompanied by and under the control of a Member. It is the Member’s duty to ensure that no child under his care causes annoyance to other persons using the Clubhouse or grounds. This includes the practice putting green.
Damage to Property
NO MEMBER SHALL TAKE AWAY OR DAMAGE ANY PROPERTY OF THE CLUB AND ANY MEMBER DOING SO MAY BE REQUIRED BY THE PROPRIETORS TO MAKE GOOD SUCH LOSS OR DAMAGE.
Member’s Property
The Club accepts no responsibility for loss or damage to clothes, shoes, golf clubs, balls, money, valuables, or any other property of Members or Visitors left either in the lockers, dressing rooms or other part of the Clubhouse or Club Grounds.
Motor Cars, Cycles etc.
Motor cars, cycles and conveyances must be left or parked in the car parking spaces provided as may be directed by the secretary from time to time. The Club will not accept any liability or responsibility for these or their contents. Speed limits for motor vehicles and motor cycles though the Club grounds shall be decided by the Proprietors and must be adhered to.
Complaints
All complaints shall be made in writing signed by the Member complaining and addressed to the secretary, who if he/she is able will deal with them. If requested to do so the secretary will submit them to the Committee/Proprietors, whose decision shall be final. A complaint against the behaviour or conduct of servant of the Club shall not form the subject of a personal reprimand, but shall be made in writing to the Secretary.
Should any Member’s or guest’s behaviour be unacceptable they may be requested to leave the premises at the discretion of the duty staff or any member of the Committee present at the time.
Junior Membership
Joining the Club
Juniors can apply for membership at the age of 8. All Juniors will attend an interview with the club captain, accompanied by their parents or guardian, before being offered membership.
Subscriptions and Joining Fees
The age of a Junior will be taken as the age he/she has attained when the Annual Subscription becomes payable.
Playing Restrictions
Juniors are not allowed to play on the course without attaining the agreed Golf Foundation Merit Award Certificate or have a handicap certificate from a former club.
Juniors under 10 years old are not allowed to play on the course unless they are accompanied by an adult member or guardian, due to Health & Safety regulations.
Posted Course restrictions apply at all times.
On weekdays Juniors are not permitted to commence play between 17.00 and 18.30hrs, unless accompanied by an adult member. However, if on the day Tee Times are available, these may be taken up by juniors .
Saturday and Sunday play will only be allowed from 10.00am - 11.30 and from 12.30 onwards unless accompanying a Full Member. However, if on the day Tee Times are available, these may be taken up by Juniors i.e. Juniors are not allowed to pre-book Tee Times at the times stipulated above.
In the interests of safety and awareness, Juniors will be expected to register in Golf-shop prior to playing.
Junior Competitions
All competitions will be listed in the Club Diary; the emphasis will be to play Competitions during the weekdays of school holidays.
Inter Club Competitions will preferably be played during the week, but weekend play will be permitted in late afternoon.
Junior Entry to Senior Competitions.
Juniors on attaining the age of 18 are allowed to play in and win all Senior Competitions, provided on reaching the age of 18 the proportion of the Colt fee is paid.
Junior boys under the age of 18 with a handicap of 18 or below can be invited to play in and win, all Senior Competitions that do not have a Junior Equivalent.
Junior girls under the age of 18 with a handicap of 30 or below can be invited to play in and win, all Ladies Competitions that do not have a Junior Equivalent.
Men’s Winter Leagues
Any Junior male who a handicap of 18 and is partnered by an adult may be able play in the Winter Leagues.
Junior Visitors
Junior visitors must be over 10 years old and must produce a bona fide Handicap Certificate or Merit Certificate.
Clubhouse, Bar and Pool Table
Clubhouse rules apply at all times.
Juniors under the age of 18 are not allowed to use the gaming machines.
